The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) uses Atos Healthcare's medical assessments to help them consider claims for sickness and disability benefits. These benefits include: Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, and Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.

The DWP refers over two million cases to us each year, and these result in over 600,000 face-to-face examinations – usually in one of our
130-plus medical examination centres or, where necessary, at a claimant's home.

These assessments are undertaken by experienced doctors and healthcare practitioners, who have been trained to undertake the medical assessments appropriate to the specific benefit being claimed.

Our performance is measured each month against key performance indicators that include the quality of the reports, claimant satisfaction and value for money.

We work closely with the DWP to support its agenda of "Work for those who can, and support for those who cannot". And we are working with the DWP to introduce the new Employment and Support Allowance benefit in 2008.
